A post on the Meadows Surgical Arts Facebook page, posted at shortly after 9 p.m. today, confirms that Dr. Lionel Meadows was killed when the small plane he was piloting – a single engine Cessna 182 – crashed Sunday evening, May 7, near Reliance, Tennessee.
“Today, we mourn the tragic loss of our wonderful Dr. Lionel Meadows. Although the exact details are still unclear, Dr. Meadows’ small plane went down during a storm last night, May 7, 2023,” the post states. “He was traveling alone after a weekend of visiting with his family.”
Flight details recorded on the Aviation Safety Network website, FlightAware website, and the initial FFA incident report shows that the small plane took off from South Bend Regional Airport in Indiana at 3:35 p.m. and was scheduled to land at Jackson County Airport in Jefferson at 7:22 p.m.
According to the FFA incident report, the pilot was the only individual on board. The report states “the plane crashed in unknown circumstances,” but officials have indicated that weather may have played a role in the incident.
“Dr. Meadows was a beloved friend, mentor, and inspiration to many of us. He was a brilliant surgeon and doctor who touched the lives of so many with his kindness and passion for delivering exceptional patient care,” the post on Meadows Surgical Arts page states. “Dr. Meadows was known for praying with each of his patients before surgery, and we ask for your prayers now as we mourn his death. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”
According to the Meadows Surgical Arts website, Meadows was “double board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery.”
The website goes on to say that “After over a decade of practicing as an OB/GYN in Toccoa, Georgia, Dr. Meadows’ dedication to his craft led him to further specialize in the field of cosmetic surgery.” Meadows operated practices in Commerce, Buford, and Monroe.
