Martin Woman Indicted for Murder in Hit and Run Death of Husband

Candice Martin was indicted on several murder charges in the hit and run death of her husband

A Martin woman has been indicted on several murder charges by a Franklin County Grand Jury in the hit and run death of her husband.

Last week, the Grand Jury returned true bills against 26-year old Candice Paige Martin on one count of malice murder, one count of felony murder, on count of aggravated assault, one count of homicide by vehicle-leaving the scene and one count of hit and run.

Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas said on Sunday morning, September 2nd his deputies were called to Ridgeview Road in the Gumlog Community by a witness who saw a green four-door sedan hit a man and then drive off.

EMS crews pronounced 40-year old Michael Jack Martin dead at the scene.

Thomas said agents with the GBI and the State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team investigated the incident for several days collecting evidence.

Martin allegedly ran over her husband on Ridgview Road in the Gumlog Community, killing him

Thomas said during their investigation deputies learned the vehicle was driven by Martin’s wife.

Later on September 2nd, Candice Martin contacted Law Enforcement and agreed to meet investigators at a convenience store in Stephens County.

When authorities arrived, they seized a green Buick matching the description of the vehicle witnesses described and took Candice Martin into custody.

Candice Martin was denied bond and is being held in the Franklin County Detention Center.
