Marijuana grow house discovered in home on Dubignion Drive

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley recently released details of an arrest of an Eastanolle man for multiple drug charges.

According to Shirley, Investigators with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office had been conducting an investigation into reports regarding a marijuana grow house on Dubignion Drive in Toccoa.

Through the investigation deputies learned that the resident, Jason Bradley Hughes, was on active felony probation for a previous stalking conviction.

Investigators contacted the State Probation Office, and requested their assistance to conduct a search of Hughes’ home.

On January 3, 2018 Investigators along with a member of state probation traveled to 132 Dubignion Drive in Eastanollee where they made contact with Hughes.

Deputies began a search of the residence and immediately located two bags containing a large amount of marijuana in the living room.

It was at this point that investigators halted their investigation.

Shirley said his lead investigator went before the judge of magistrate court and obtained a search warrant for a more thorough look at the remainder of the home.

Once the search warrant was procured, sheriff’s office investigators conducted a thorough search of the residence.

During the search they recovered more marijuana, methamphetamine, scales, packaging material, over $1000.00 in cash, and a loaded handgun.

In the basement of the home Investigators located a large indoor grow setup complete with UV lighting on digital timers and a watering system.

Investigators were able to collect enough plant material to conduct testing and verify that this setup was actually used to manufacture marijuana.

Hughes was subsequently arrested and charged with Manufacturing Marijuana, possession of Marijuana with intent to distribute, Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Felony Probation Violation.

Hughes is currently incarcerated in the Stephens County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.

Sheriff Shirley advised that this is still an ongoing investigation and that more charges and arrests may be forthcoming.
