Many Still Without Power But Numbers Going Down

Power is slowly being restored in Northeast Georgia.

As of late Wednesday evening, Hart EMC is reporting just under 1700 customers still in the dark in their five-county coverage area, which includes Stephens, Franklin and Hart counties.

Spokesman Keith Brown says the work is moving faster now thanks to some outside help from North Carolina and Tennessee.

Hart EMC has been overwhelmed with the number of outages from Tropical Storm Irma.

According to Brown, help from other Georgia EMC’s was not available as it normally would have been because of the extent of the storm Monday.

In addition to downed power lines caused by falling trees, one of the other big problems for Hart EMC crews is dealing with broken utility poles, which were snapped by the high winds.

Brown says they are replacing those poles as fast as they can.

Meantime, John Kraft with Georgia Power says as of mid-morning Wednesday over 1,000 customers were still in the dark.

Kraft said crews are on the ground in Stephens County assessing damage and making repairs and
will continue to work as fast as they can to get power restored.
