Make Plans to Attend Christmas Fest Friday

Main Street Toccoa will be hosting Christmas Fest tomorrow evening from 6-9 P.M.

This is the 14th year that Main Street Toccoa has hosted the event. Christmas Fest will feature a live nativity with live animals, a Christmas Sage Market featuring 25 vendors and Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby says the Festival of Trees will be special. “We will have Christmas trees that our non-profits are sponsoring, and you can vote for your favorite tree. It is a ticket for $1 and you can vote as many times as you like for your favorite tree or your favorite non-profit. Whichever tree wins, the non-profit will receive the grand prize of $500. So, we are really excited about that. The trees are just beautiful and we encourage everyone to come.”

Crosby says there will also be different ways to travel through and around all of the festivities. “We have carriage rides. They will start down on Alexander and Doyle Street. We have two carriages. It is $3 per adult, and $1 for a child. We also have Santa’s Express Train. The little train that goes around and that will start at the corner of Sage and Doyle, and that is also $3 for adults and $1 per child. This year too, the Polar Express will join us for the first year and we are excited for that.”

Many of the Downtown businesses will be open during Christmas Fest including Main Street restaurants. There will also be food trucks and food booths, and Crosby says there will be a quartet of Victorian Carolers and other live music as well. “From 6-7 it will be Toccoa Jazz and from 7-9 Tugalo Holler. They always put on a great Christmas show. At 6 P.M. we will have the lighting of the city Christmas tree and displays around the Courthouse lawn. It is a beautiful time as they all come on.”

Toccoa Mayor Evan Hellenga will flip the switch that will light up main street. Crosby says Friday will also mark the return of Toccoa on Ice to main street. “Friday night will be our first night of Toccoa on Ice. It will be from 5-9 P.M. and then every Friday, Saturday and Sunday the entire month of December. It is just $5. It is always a fun event and not just for kids. We have ice skate’s size 13 for men so everyone is welcome.”
