Main Street Virtual Awards begin at 6 p.m. tonight on Facebook

Main Street Toccoa will hold its annual Main Street Awards Program today; however, this year’s award ceremony will be held virtually.

According to Main Street Toccoa Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby the awards ceremony will be streamed on the Main Street Toccoa Facebook page beginning at 6 p.m. tonight.

She says the decision to hold the event virtually was made to protect everyone from the spread of COVID-19.

Crosby says the awards will be taped and then aired on the Facebook page at 6 P.M. to allow for a much broader audience to view, as opposed to the awards being held inside.

She says that it is important for the community to support these businesses.

“The biggest thing they can do, whether it is Covid or not, is to support our businesses downtown. There are those whose first response when they need something is to maybe go to a big box store or out of town instead of looking to see what we have available in our downtown. We have some very good businesses, some very successful businesses. We would like you to give them a first look instead of going outside of Toccoa for what you need,” she said.

Crosby says the Downtown Development Authority will review 2020 downtown revitalization efforts during the program, and will also present awards to downtown business owners, property owners, and volunteers who have exemplified outstanding service and investment in the downtown area.

Again, the Toccoa Main Street Awards will be streamed on the Main Street Toccoa Facebook page at www.facebook.com/mainstreettoccoa or through YouTube by visiting the Main Street Toccoa YouTube channel, at 6 P.M. tonight.
