Main Street Toccoa receives grant for Alleyway Restoration Project

Main Street Toccoa is the recipient of a Tourism Product Development Grant.

On March 2, Explore Georgia, the Tourism Division within the Georgia Department of Economic Development, announced that it had awarded $5,000 in tourism product development grants to Main Street Toccoa for an Alleyway Restoration Project, to be completed by July 2021.

According to Main Street Manager Christian Hamilton, the Alleyway Restoration Project will include restoration work in accordance with historic preservation standards to two alleyways in Downtown Toccoa.

The alleyways will include bistro lighting added to allow these locations to contribute to the overall downtown sense-of-place.

Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Pat Wilson says quote, “Georgia is an incredibly beautiful state. From the mountains to the coast, and from small towns to metropolitan cities, Georgia has destinations and experiences to satisfy the needs of every traveler. We’re grateful for the opportunity to provide our partners with this additional funding,” end quote.

Toccoa Mayor Evan Hellenga says the Downtown District is the heart and soul of our community, and the City is seeking out every opportunity to continually improve downtown through beautification efforts.

Main Street Toccoa was one of four communities awarded funding this year.
