Main Street Toccoa Participating in City Hall Selfie Day

Main Street Toccoa is participating in 2017’s City Hall Selfie day on Tuesday, August 15.

According to Main Street Manager Christian Hamilton, City Hall Selfie Day is sponsored by Engaging Local Government Leaders.

“Well we can’t take credit for City Hall Selfie Day, it’s an event sponsored by Engaging Local Government Leaders. It’s a non-profit and their sole purpose is to empower the next generation of local government professionals,” said Hamilton. “We are participating in this event which will happen all across the United States and hopefully quite a few cities in the state of Georgia will be participating.”

Part of the festivities include Main Street Toccoa posting selfies of various city hall employees on the official Facebook page throughout the day.

Main Street is also encouraging local residents to participate in the event.

“What we’re hoping that the citizens of Toccoa and Stephens County will do is take selfies in front of City Hall or inside City Hall or any government building and they’ll share this on the official Main Street Toccoa Facebook page and then we’ll have a random drawing and give a special prize to one of the people who submit selfies,” said Hamilton.

Hamilton said participating in City Hall Selfie Day is for fun but also to engage citizens and have them visit downtown.

“Engaging Local Government Leaders is trying to engage the next generation of local government professionals,” said Hamilton. “And what we’d like to do here in Toccoa is have people visit their local government buildings, visit City Hall, visit the county building and really just bring them downtown and to our government offices and hopefully interact with the local government while they’re here.”
