Main Street Announces Oscars in Toccoa Film Series

The votes are in Toccoa’s Main Street has announced its line up of Oscar winning movies at the Ritz Theatre this spring.

Main Street Manager Christian Hamilton says for the Oscars in Toccoa series, they turned to the public for input.

“We’re always trying to find new events and ideas here at Main Street and one thing that citizens have been talking about is citizen input on the movie series,” he explained. “So we did a survey online during the entire month of February and let them vote on which movies they wanted to see at the Ritz Theatre in April.”

All of the suggestions had to be for movies that won an Oscar for Best Picture, according to Hamilton.

Once the votes were counted, three films stood out.

“So after the conclusion of the month-long process and over 100 votes, the citizens of Toccoa chose, “Gone With the Wind,” “Casablanca,” and “The Sting.” And we will be showing those in reverse order over three weeks in the month of April,” he said.

Additionally, downtown Toccoa businesses will be getting involved by offering vouchers for free movie tickets and two snacks.

“And during the week of each movie, if you shop downtown, you will get a voucher for two free movie passes and two concession items,” Hamilton said. “It works well with helping our downtown businesses and bringing people out to the Ritz Theatre.”

The three films will be shown on three consecutive weekends in April.

Dates and showtimes will be held at:
• April 6: The Sting, 7pm
• April 20: Casablanca, 7pm
• April 27: Gone with the Wind, 7pm
