Local Law Enforcement Join Forces for 2nd Annual Back to School Bash

As we’ve been telling you, the first day of school is just a couple of weeks away and local law enforcement is joining forces with the Hope Center to hold the 2nd Annual Back to School Bash at Henderson Falls Park.

The Back to School Bash takes place this Friday from 5p to 7p, but all this week you are invited to help stuff two law enforcement vehicles with much-needed school supplies.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley and Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize say their officers are stationed at two locations in the Wal-mart Plaza to take your donations.

“The Sheriff’s office has a cruiser at the Shoe Show at the Walmart shopping center,” he said. “We’re asking the community to support the Sheriff’s office and going to the store and purchasing a new pair of shoes and throw them in the cruiser. It can be any size shoes.  We will be there all this week.”

Mize said his officers will be in front of the Wal-mart to collect different kinds of school supplies.

“We at the Police Department decided since the Sheriff was doing the shoes, we parked our cruiser in front of the Walmart and we’re collecting general school supplies,” Mize said. “It could be pencils, erasers, glue, tablets, paper – any of the school items our students would need.”

Mize said the community is invited to come down all this week to help load up a police cruiser with school supplies.

Additionally, Mize said officers will also be doing some shopping of their own for supplies t his afternoon to help students get a good start to the new school year.

“We’re actually going to be down at Walmart on Wednesday with some money some of our officers had raised to shop for some of the needed supplies. We want to encourage everyone to come down and say, ‘hey’ to us on Wednesday. I think we’re going to be there from about 1p to 2p.”

Sheriff Shirley says he appreciated the opportunity his officers had to partner with the Toccoa Police for this important community outreach.

“There’s nothing greater than two agencies getting together and doing things like this for the community,” Shirley said. “What better way to build a positive relationship with a child or young person. We’ll be out there, as well as at Henderson Falls Park this coming Friday to enjoy fellowhsip and to give away the items the kids are in need of.”

Again, you can help students get the supplies they need for the new school year by purchasing and donating a pair of new shoes or any kind of school supplies all this week at the Walmart Plaza.

Again, the Back to School Bash takes place Friday evening from 5p to 7p at Henderson Falls Park.

In addition to free school supplies, there will also be free food, inflatables and live entertainment with D. Earl.

1st Franklin Financial and Ebenezer Baptist Church are also participating.
