Liberty Elementary School Student Artwork Recognized During 2019 MAW

Anne Kaiser, Vice President of Community and Economic Development at Georgia Power presents check to Liberty Elementary student Eden Sullivan

A Liberty Elementary School student is the recipient of an honorable mention award in the 2019 Manufacturing Appreciation Week Student Design Contest.

Eden Sullivan is a first grader at Liberty Elementary School in Toccoa. She received a $50 scholarship check for her color pencil work that depicted trucks, tractors, and planes.

Eden was awarded her check at the Governor’s Award Luncheon April 18 at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park.

Anne Kaiser, Vice President of Community and Economic Development at Georgia Power presented the check to Eden.

Sullivan said she loves to draw, especially animals and wants to be an artist one day.  She said she often draws foxes and trees with pencils, paints, and crayons in art class.

Students from around the state submitted design entries featuring Georgia manufacturers and their products. Sullivan represented North Georgia Technical College.

“We were so proud to have Eden’s work honored, and to have her represent our service area was very special for our college,” said Dr. Mark Ivester, President of North Georgia Technical College. “We had a record number of artwork entries this year, and to my knowledge, this is the first time our college has had a winner recognized at the banquet. We are very proud of Eden and thankful to her parents for encouraging her to enter the contest and attend the ceremony with us.”

The Governor’s Awards Luncheon is the highlight of Manufacturers Awareness Week, celebrated this year April 15 through 19.

Co-hosted by the Technical College System of Georgia and the Georgia Department of Economic Development, the week brings attention to the tremendous contribution manufacturing makes on Georgia’s economic growth.

According to Gov. Kemp, nearly 9,802 manufacturing facilities are located in Georgia, providing 406,602 jobs and generating more than $22.7 billion in wages for Georgia’s citizens.
