Lawrenceville Woman Charged in Banks County Thankgiving Fatal Wreck

A Lawrenceville woman is facing charges in the death of a Winder man killed in a fatal wreck over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Acording to Sgt. 1st Class Anthony Coleman of the Gainesville Post of the Georgia State Patrol, 24-year old Taylor McGaughey is charged with failure to stop at a stop sign and 2nd degree vehicular homicide.

Last Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, the Georgia State Patrol responded to a report of an accident on Georgia Highway 64 and Wells Road in Banks County.

Troopers on the scene say McGaughey’s vehicle, a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt, was traveling south on Wells Road approaching Ga. 63 when she failed to stop at a stop sign.

McGaughey’s vehicle struck a 2001 GMC Safari on the left side driven by 51-year-old Kurt Kesler of Winder as he was traveling east on Ga. 63.

The Safari then left the roadway on the right side, struck a tree with it’s front and then overturned onto its right side.

Kesler died at the scene.

According to Coleman, Kesler’s three passengers suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported by ambulance to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.

The passengers included an adult female and two children.
