The Toccoa Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation continues to investigate the death of an infant.

Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize says they are still waiting on the autopsy results from the crime lab.

As WNEG News previously reported, on Wednesday, June 28, officers were dispatched to the apartments at Regency Inn, located at 517 West Currahee Street, in reference to an unresponsive child.

At that time, Mize told WNEG News about the investigation.

Mize says, once on scene, officers and first responders started CPR on the infant until EMS arrived and took over.

The victim, a 3-month-old, was later pronounced deceased at Stephens County Hospital.

Mize says while officers spoke with the mother and witnesses, investigators were called to the scene and later to the hospital.

Mize adds that the case remains active and is ongoing.
