Lavonia Taking Nominations for Margaret Ayers Civic Award

In Lavonia, nominations are being accepted for this year’s Margaret Ayers Award for Civic Health.

Sponsored by the Lavonia Clinic and the Northeast Georgia Regional Medical Associates, this is the 14th year for the annual award, which is named after Margaret Ayers, longtime civic activist, former First Lady of Lavonia, and career banker.

The award recognizes one Lavonia citizen for their civic leadership, exceptional character, and appreciation of Lavonia history, as well as their ability to bring credit to the city.

Last year’s winners were Randy and Gwen Moore.

They were nominated for their long time involvement with the Franklin County Historical Society, the Lavonia Historic Preservation Group, the Remarkable Women of Franklin County, Lavonia Presbyterian Church, as well as the Lavonia Woman’s Club, Ty Cobb Museum, and the Land of Spirit annual community production.

Award nomination forms for the annual award are available at the Lavonia Clinic, the Northeast Georgia Bank and the Lavonia Chamber of Commerce Office.
In order to be considered for the award, the nominee must be at least 18yrs of age and resident of the City of Lavonia.
They must also demonstrate exceptional character, civic leadership, an appreciation for history and be someone who brings credit to the city.
Nomination forms are due by September 15.
A special presentation ceremony will take place in October.
