Lavonia bomb threat proves to be hoax

A bomb threat was called in to McDonald’s restaurant in Lavonia on Sunday.

The caller stated the bomb would detonate in 20 minutes.

Although law enforcement acted on the call as a real threat, the call turned out to be a hoax.

According to Lavonia Police Chief Bruce Carlisle, officers responded to the call and cleared the building.

Once the building was cleared of both customers and employees, law enforcement then performed a search of the entire facility, finding no bomb.

After the search was concluded and the time passed for the bomb to detonate, employees and customers were again allowed into the building and business resumed as normal.

Carlisle said the department had traced the phone number and did have a suspect.

The case is still under investigation and further information will be released as the investigation progresses.
