Late night fire destroys vacant warehouse Monday night

Last night, at 11:17 p.m. the Toccoa Fire Department was dispatched to a fire on Elberton Street at Avon Street.

Toccoa Fire Chief Jeff Haslup and Assistant Fire chief Frankie Deitz updated WNEG news this morning on the blaze, saying that Toccoa, Carnes Creek and Shiloh Fire Department units were on scene, and had the fire under control by 2 a.m., and the scene was cleared by 4 a.m.

The fire was fully involved by the time the fire department was dispatched, and several firefighters responding from near Skyline were able to see the glow from the fire as the responded. Multiple calls were made to 911 by residents to report the fire, Haslup said.

He said the warehouse was vacant, and the owner of the large commercial building had been notified; he added that there were no injuries reported from the fire.

Haslup called State fire investigators to assist into the investigation to determine the cause of the blaze.
