Lane Shift on I-85 Should Ease Construction Traffic

If you’re headed into the metro Atlanta area any time this week, you might have an easier time getting through some of the construction areas in Gwinnett County.

Over the weekend, Georgia Department of Transportation crews instituted a lane shift at Hamilton Mill Road in an effort to improve traffic flow while the I-85 widening project continues.

The outside travel lane on I-85 will close to traffic, and the two inside lanes will open to traffic from Hamilton Mill Road to SR 211.

Additionally, the outside lane south of Hamilton Mill Road will become an exit-only lane while construction is in progress.

Drivers are advised to obey posted speed limits and traffic control measures inside the project limits.

The I-85 widening project extends from Jackson County to Hamilton Mill Road in Gwinnett County, and includes the replacement of three bridges.
