Lake Hartwell Visitor Center set to reopen next week

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced that the Lake Hartwell Visitor Center will reopen next week.

According to Senior Public Affairs Specialist for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Billy Birdwell, the Hartwell Project Office along with the Corps of Engineers have decided to reopen the project’s visitor center on May 24, after more than a year of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Hartwell Project Visitor Center closed to the public in March 2020.

As COVID-19 conditions improved and vaccines are more readily available, recent Corps of Engineers guidance allows for reopening visitor centers in compliance with existing requirements and guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Visitors must continue to follow CDC guidance regarding COVID-19 mitigation while inside the visitor center.

Starting May 24, the visitor center will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

On Saturday, Sunday, and Federal Holidays, the center will be open from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

The visitor center is located at 5625 Anderson Highway in Hartwell.
