Lady Indians Take 3rd Place Game in Region Tournament

The Stephens County Lady Indians jumped out to a 19 point lead at the end of the 1st quarter to roll to a 65-57 win over Madison County on Friday in the Region-8 Tournament 3rd place game in Watkinsville.

The Lady Indians again featured balanced scoring with Renajah Verdell leading the way with 22 points. Kiki Howard added 15 and Savannah Broska 13 for Stephens County now 21-6 on the season.

Madison County was led by Kayla McPherson with 46 of the 57 Lady Red Raiders points.

Stephens County will be the #3 seed from Region-8 and will travel to face the #2 seed from Region-6 in the State Tournament. The Lady Indians will travel to the loser of Monday’s Gilmer-Northwest Whitfield game.

St. Pius won both the girls and boys Region-8 AAAA Championship on Friday. The girls defeated Oconee County 38-22, and the boys defeated North Oconee 60-41.

Madison County took the boys 3rd place game 62-45 over Oconee County.

In Region-8 AAA the Franklin County boys defeated Hart County 70-65 on Friday. The 3rd place games and finals were moved to Monday due to weather. The Lions will face Jefferson for the boys championship at 7:30 P.M. Hart County will face Monroe Area at 5:30 P.M. for 3rd place. The Hart County girls will face Jackson County at 4 P.M. in the 3rd place game. Jefferson and Morgan County will play in the girls final.
