Lady Indians Season Ends at Oconee

The Stephens County Lady Indians season came to an end in the Region-8 AAA tournament Monday night falling at Oconee County in Watkinsville 51-28.

The Lady Warriors jumped out early outscoring the Lady Indians 26-5 in the first quarter and it was 42-9 at the half. Oconee County made seven-three pointers in the opening half and limited Stephens County to just one field goal.

The Lady Indians lone senior, Manisha Colbert, led all scorers with 16 points including 15 in the 2nd half. Oconee County was led by Mara Gable with 11 points.

Oconee County advances to face Hart County on Wednesday at East Jackson High School. The other semi-final will have host East Jackson against Franklin County. The Lady Lions defeated Monroe Area 57-40 in the early game.

The Lady Indians finished the season with a record of 1-25. Oconee County improves to 18-6.

The Stephens County boys will be in action Tuesday night in Watkinsville facing Monroe Area in the Region-8 tournament. The two teams split during the season. The winner will advance to face Hart County in the region semi-finals and will also advance to the State AAA tournament. WNEG will broadcast the Indians and Purple Hurricanes with airtime set for 5:45 P.M. Tuesday night.
