Lady Indians Roll to Elite Eight

The Stephens County Lady Indians jumped on Coahulla Creek early in a game that was never in doubt and rolled to a 66-50 victory in the 2nd round of the Girls AAA State Playoffs Friday night at Currahee Arena.

Inspired by a raucous home crowd, the Lady Indians led by 12 points at the end of the opening quarter and totally shut down the Colts in the 2nd quarter to take a large halftime lead.

The Lady Indians led by as many as 20 points in the 3rd quarter. Coahulla Creek cut the lead to 12 in the 4th quarter, but that was as close as they would get.

The Lady Indians had three players with double figure scoring: KiKi Howard led all scorers with 19 points, NaNa Eades scored 14, Ranajah Verdell 13. Savana Broska added 9 points on 3-three pointers, and Brooklyn Steeple scored 6 on three straight field goals in the 3rd quarter.

The Lady Indians improve to 19-6 on the season and have won six straight games. The Colts season ends at 22-5.

The Lady Indians advance to the State Quarterfinals for the first time since 1989. They will travel to undefeated and top-ranked Upson-Lee next week, a 67-36 winner over Morgan County.

The game will be played Tuesday at 6 P.M. with airtime at 5:45 P.M. on 93.1 FM & AM-630 WNEG and at wnegradio.com.
