Lady Indians Eliminated in Region Tournament

The Stephens County Lady Indians fell on the short side of an old-fashioned pitchers duel Thursday afternoon when Oconee County plated the only run of the game in the final inning to win 1-0 in the semi-final of the Region-8 Softball Tournament in Danielsville.

With the game scoreless in the bottom of the 7th Oconee County’s one-out infield grounder scored the deciding run from 3rd base.

Stephens County’s Emma Whitfield was outstanding in the loss allowing only one run on seven hits, with seven strikeouts, and one walk.

Kayle Orrell was the winning pitcher for Oconee County. Orrell pitched the complete game allowing eight hits, striking out five, with no walks.

Kasey Westmoreland went 3 for 3 at the plate, and Jasmine Lowery added two hits to lead the Indians offense.

The Lady Indians will now represent Region-8 as the #3 seed in the AAAA State Playoffs and will be on the road at Central of Carrollton for the best of three series on Wednesday.

Madison County defeated Oconee County 11-2 on Thursday to take the Region title. The Lady Red Raiders are the Region’s #1 seed and will host Cedartown in the first round. Oconee County is the Region’s #2 seed and will host Lagrange. North Oconee, the Region’s #4 seed, will travel to Chapel Hill.
