Lady Indians Earn Split in State Tournament-Advance to Tuesday
The Stephens County Lady Indians won one and lost one Monday in the opening day of the State Softball Playoffs. The double-elimination, four-team bracket with Stephens County is being played at Gordon Lee in Chickamauga.
The Lady Indians, the number 3 seed from Region 8-AAA, played the number 2 team from Region 5, Carver of Atlanta, in the first game and came away with an easy 18 to 0 victory. Stephens County scored 16 runs in the first inning, thanks in part to triples by Carley Funderburke and Carson Stowe. Fayeth Ivester had a good game at the plate collecting 3 hits in 4 at-bats. Madison Wilson started the game on the mound for the Lady Indians and did not allow a hit, striking out 8 with no walks over 3 innings.
The second game did not go as well for Stephens County as they faced the number one team from Region 6-AAA and the home team, Gordon Lee. Going into the bottom of the third inning with the score tied at 1, Gordon Lee scored 7 runs on 6 hits to go up 8 to 1. The Lady Indians could not get any closer and lost 12 to 2. Ally Means and Kaylee Glaze drove in Stephens County’s 2 runs.
Stephens County will play again tomorrow afternoon at 1 P.M. vs. White County, a 15-0 winner over Carver of Atlanta.
