Lady Indians defeated by Jefferson

 

The Stephens County Lady Indians softball team split two games in the Region 8-AAAA tournament in Jefferson on Tuesday.

In the first game, Stephens County broke a 1-run tie in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Oconee County, 2 to 1.

Ashton Ayers’ single scored Natalie Morgan who had reached on a double earlier in the inning.

The Lady Indians first run came in the first inning on a Kayley Sellers RBI single.

Emma Whitfield pitched seven strong innings for Stephens County, allowing six hits and one run, striking out nine with no walks.

In the second game, Jefferson pulled out a 2 to 0 victory over Stephens County.

Emma Whitfield started the game for the Lady Indians and went six innings.

She recorded 18 outs and gave up 2 unearned runs.

Stephens County lost despite out-hitting Jefferson five to four.

Stephens Co plays Madison Co at 2 o’clock Thursday in Jefferson.

Madison County defeated Oconee County Tuesday in the elimination bracket game, 10 to 0.

The winner of the Stephens County/Madison County game will move on to play Jefferson, but must defeat the Lady Dragons twice to claim the Region championship.

The loser will be the region’s third seed in the state tournament that begins next Wednesday and will play on the road.
