Lady Indians Defeat Oconee, Fall to Madison in Region Tourney

Madison County defeated Stephens County 4-0 Tuesday night and advances to the Region-8 Softball Championship in Danielsville.

It was the Lady Indians first loss in the double-elimination tournament.

The win was the third for the Lady Raiders over the Lady Indians this season.

It was the second game of the day for both teams. Earlier in the afternoon, Aly Singletary hit a grand slam home run and Emma Whitfield got the win on the mound to lead Stephens County to a 7-3 win over Oconee County.

Singletary’s grand slam came in the 4th inning to stretch the lead to 7-0.

The Lady Indians entered the tournament as the #3 seed, and will now face the #2 seed Oconee County in an elimination game at 2 P.M. on Thursday.

Oconee County eliminated North Oconee 10-0 on Tuesday. Madison County had defeated North Oconee 6-0 in the opening game of the day.

The winner of Thursday’s Stephens County-Oconee County game will advance to the Region Championship round to be played on Thursday at 4 P.M. and will have to defeat the host Madison County team twice to win the Region title.

If Stephens County defeats Oconee County again on Thursday, they would at the very least qualify as the #2 team from Region-8 and would host the first round of the AAAA State Playoffs next week.
