Lady Indians defeat N. Oconee, 6-2

The Stephens County Lady Indians took home a 6-2 region softball victory over North Oconee on Thursday at the Reservation.

Stephens County got on the board in the first inning when Kasey Westmoreland singled in a run.

The Lady Indians put up four runs in the fourth inning with Tyra Hunter, Emma Whitfield, and Ashton Ayers, all driving in runs.

Whitfield got the win for Stephens County. She surrendered two runs on three hits, striking out 17 of the 24 batters she faced.

Coach Dave Poffenberger tells WNEG News that he believes Whitfield’s performance may top the school record.

The Lady Indians collected eight hits.  Whitfield and Hunter each had two hits to lead Stephens County.  The Lady Indians improve to 7 & 6 overall and 3 & 2 in region play.  Stephens County will be in action Saturday, playing GMC at 8:30 followed by Alcovy at 10:30.
