Lady Indians Defeat Hart County and Remain Undefeated

The Stephens County Lady Indians Softball Team defeated Hart County, 6-3 Saturday to remain undefeated at 5 & 0.

With the game tied at 3-3, Emma Whitfield hit a 3-run home run in the top of the 7th inning to take the lead for good.

Natalie Morgan had an RBI triple and Bailey Dobbs had an RBI single in the game.  The Lady Indians collected nine hits, with Mackenzie Rogers, Bailey Dobbs and Kayley Sellers leading the offense with two hits each.

The Lady Indians have started their season strong and will continue today as they play North Hall.

New Lady Indians Head Softball Coach Katie Jo Gentry said after being an assistant coach last year, the transition to being the head coach this year has gone well:

“I know the girls very well now,” said Gentry. “Things haven’t changed a whole lot. We of course lost Dave Poffenberger, who was an awesome addition to our team. We miss him a lot but we’re just rolling forward with what we’ve been working on and trying to build our program every year, so that’s our goal.”

After making it to the “Elite 8” in the state playoffs last year, Coach Gentry said this year’s team has a lot of experience:

“We were blessed last year to have the depth on the bench that we even had girls sitting out some games that could have been very good starters for us,” said Gentry. “We have those girls coming in this year who have experience, they’ve been to the Elite 8, they know the pressure that’s put on you there, so we’ve got that to build off of this year. You couldn’t really ask for more as a coach.”

Again, the Lady Indians game against North Hall is today with game time at 5:55.
