‘Known Drug Dealer’ Arrested Following Attempted Flee

On December 14, at 12:30 p.m., the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a motorcycle after observing traffic violations.

The driver failed to come to a stop, accelerating instead. Driving in a reckless manner, he failed to stop at several stop signs. He turned left onto Davis road, and then pulled into a private driveway and stopped.

The suspect, later identified as James Saylors, 46, of Toccoa, was advised by the deputy to turn off his bike and approach his patrol vehicle. The deputy then attempted to detain Saylors, who began resisting. Other deputies arrived on scene and, after a brief struggle, Saylors was placed in handcuffs.

During a search of Saylors, Sgt. Michael Vice recovered a large plastic baggie containing more than 24 grams of suspected methamphetamine, a large sum of money under $1,000 was also found in Saylors’s belongings.

Stephens County Dispatch notified deputies that the license plate displayed on the sport bike was registered to a different motorcycle. The VIN number of the sport bike, which returned as a 2017 Blue Kawasaki EX300, had canceled registration and no insurance.

While deputies placed Saylors into a patrol vehicle for transport, a deputy located a yellow pill suspected to be Clonazepam, a Schedule IV controlled substance.

Saylors is charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, failure to Obey Stop Sign, Failure to Yield Right of Way to Emergency Vehicles, Obstructing or Hindering Law Enforcement Officer, Failure to Maintain Insurance, Knowingly Driving Motor Vehicle on Suspended, Canceled, or Revoked Registration, Acquiring License Plate for Purpose of Concealing Identification of Motor Vehicle, failure to maintain lane, Defective Tires, and Too Fast for Conditions.
