Jarrell Reminds Citizens to be Courteous of Neighbors During 4th of July Celebrations

As Fourth of July celebrations continue today, Police Chief Tim Jarrell reminds everyone to be safe and courteous of your neighbors as you celebrate.

Jarrell says the police department would like for residents within the city limits to consider your neighbors.

“One of the things that we’re looking for, is we would like for people within the city limits of Toccoa to be courteous of their neighbors,” said Jarrell. “If they are going to use fireworks, be mindful of the time and understand that there are some people who have anxiety to loud noises that are caused by fireworks.”
According to Jarrell, some people in the community also suffer from PTSD and the loud noises that fireworks make can be difficult for them.

Other things to keep in mind, if you are underage and using fireworks, be sure to do so in the presence of an adult. Also, Jarrell said the police department will be looking out for aggressive drivers.

“We’re also going to be on the lookout for people who are displaying aggressive driving behaviors,” said Jarrell. “And always, if you’re going to drink make sure you have a designated driver.”

And lastly, Jarrell reminds everyone that discharging of firearms is not prohibited nor is it part of 4th of July festivities.
