Jan Stonecypher Howard

Jan Stonecypher Howard, beloved wife, mother, educator, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 25th, 2023, at her home in Cumming, GA.

Born on July 31st, 1963, in Toccoa, GA, Jan was one of three cherished daughters of Carl and Montine Stonecypher. After graduating from Stephens County High School, she attended the University of Georgia, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics. Later, she furthered her education, obtaining a Master of Education in School Counseling from Clemson University.

Jan’s career in education spanned several decades, touching the lives of many. She began as a Home Economics teacher at Walhalla Middle School in Walhalla, SC, and later at Buford High School in Buford, GA. In 2001, she transitioned to become a counselor at Cumming Elementary School, where she dedicated the remainder of her career. Jan’s passion and excellence in her field were honored in 2021 when she received the Elementary School Counselor of the Year Award, a testament to her outstanding contributions to the educational community. Her impact was profound, and she will be remembered by thousands of students, faculty, and staff for her unwavering selflessness, generosity, and genuine desire to help others.

In 1991, during a vacation in Daytona Beach, FL, Jan met the love of her life, Davy Howard. They married two years later and made their home in Cumming, GA, where they joyfully welcomed two sons, Bailey and Logan. Jan was not only a devoted wife but also a loving mother, creating a happy childhood for her sons and a warm and nurturing home for her family.

Jan’s zest for life extended beyond her professional and family roles. She had a natural ability to make everyone around her feel at ease, often sharing meals and laughter with loved ones. An enthusiast of antique auctions and thrift stores, she delighted in finding the perfect piece of furniture to complement not only her own home but also the spaces of those dear to her. Above all, her ultimate source of joy lay in the precious moments spent with her family—cheering on her boys in every pursuit and crafting enduring memories that will forever be treasured by those who love her most.

Jan is survived by her devoted husband, Davy; her loving sons, Bailey and Logan; her sisters, Jill Stonecypher and Peggy Davis; her nieces, Jennifer Smith and Tabitha Martin; her nephew, Ben Davis; and her mother, Montine Stonecypher.

Jan’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, kindness, and a deep commitment to the well-being of others.
