Jamieson sworn in, Wheeler tapped for City Manager

At Monday’s Toccoa City Commission meeting, Commissioner-elect Michelle Jamieson was sworn in as a city commissioner to fill the Post 3 seat left vacant with the passing of Jeanette Jamieson in April. Michelle Jamieson took the seat in the Toccoa Municipal Elections earlier this month, garnering 355 votes against candidate Gary Coretllino’s 346 votes.

Following Monday’s meeting, Michelle Jamieson made a brief comment, stating she was honored and proud that the citizens gave her the opportunity to serve.

Toccoa’s commissioners serve four-year terms. Jeanette Jamieson was last elected to office in 2021, and her term will not expire until 2025, at which time, both the Post 3 seat now filled by Michelle Jamieson, and the Post 5 seat held by Evan Hellenga, will be up for election.

In other action at Monday’s meeting, Commissioners approved moving the December meeting dates to Dec. 4 and Dec. 11.

Also at Monday’s meeting, Mayor David Austin announced that the Commission would be considering the appointment of Freda Wheeler as City Manager, effective Jan. 1.
