James William “Jim” Hemminger

James William “Jim” Hemminger passed into the presence of his Lord on Monday, July 10, 2023, at his home in Toccoa, Georgia.

Jim was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania on February 17, 1943, to the late Harry F. Hemminger and Mabel Hamm Hemminger.  At an early age, he accepted the Lord as his Savior.  He was a graduate of McKeesport Vocational High School, Douglas Business School and Toccoa Falls Institute.  He married Ann Barnes on June 5, 1965.

He answered the call into the ministry and served pastorates in Wildrose, North Dakota and Grand Island, Nebraska prior to going to Brazil on September 11, 1969.  He and his wife were missionaries for 33 years.  Jim also served as senior Pastor of the Dover, Delaware Alliance church during the years 1992-2000 before returning to Brazil to complete their missionary service.  Their work included church planting and administration.

In 2010, he retired in Toccoa and for several years was Pastor of Visitation at the Toccoa Alliance Church.  Without a doubt, what defined Jim as a follower of Jesus was his love for people.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mabel Hemminger; his sister, Myrtle Lyons and a granddaughter, Emily Adams.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Hemminger; brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Laraine Hemminger from Baytown, Texas; his children, Lori Hemminger of Toccoa, Deborah and Todd Adams of Papua, Indonesia and Jeff and Christine Hemminger of Middletown, Delaware; grandchildren, Brandon Lambert, Logan and Kelsey Lambert, Evan and Aidan Hemminger, Sullivan and Natalie Adams, Jordan Adams and Beau Adams; great-grandchildren, Craig, Haddasah, Vella and Jackson.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 14, 2023, 3 o’clock p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Todd Adams, The Reverend Doug Ord, The Reverend Brian Rockwell and The Reverend Len Warden officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Jeff Hemminger, Jim Sevast, Harvey Hoffman, Glenn Garner, Beau Adams and Sullivan Adams.

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Friday from 1 p.m. until the service time.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to The Christian and Missionary Alliance, One Alliance Place, Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43068.

Interment will follow in the Toccoa City Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of the arrangements for Mr. James William “Jim” Hemminger.
