It’s Starting to Feel a Bit Like Christmas

The Toccoa Christmas Decorations committee, led by Susan Turner, took over downtown Monday morning as the city’s traditional yearly decorations began to be staged and installed.

The committee, which includes Turner, Commissioner Gail Fry, Commissioner Terry Carter, and various city staff, begins work in late July/early August and works hard to make Toccoa a magical Christmas wonderland, said Toccoa Special Events Coordinator Misty Richardson.

Thirteen volunteers joined the committee to work on the installation on Monday. Six volunteers met in October to create new bows for the wreaths, handrails, and lamp posts. In all nearly 200 red bows were made. Sixty six wreaths now adorn the Historic Courthouse windows and an additional 64 wreaths are in process of being hung downtown.

New to the scenery this year is a large Santa and gift box arch on Doyle Street. There is also an antique one horse open sleigh at the corner of Sage and Tugalo furnished by Stephen Caudell.

All of the decorations will be lit for the upcoming Christmas Fest on Friday, December 1st from 5-9 p.m.
