IRS begins processing 2019 tax returns

If you’ve filed your 2019 return and are waiting for your refund, the Internal Revenue Service has starting to process tax returns this week.

Even if you e-filed earlier this month or used a tax preparer, your return were held until they could be submitted beginning Monday.

The due date for 2019 federal income tax returns is April 15, 2020, for most individual taxpayers.

Now if you have not yet filed your return, the IRS still recommends you file your return electronically and choose direct deposit to get your refund quickly and safely.

Additionally, filing electronically flags common errors and prompts taxpayers for missing information.

Taxpayers can get free help preparing and filing taxes through the IRS website’s Free File tool which can be found at irs.gov/filing.

And tax help is available 24 hours a day on IRS.gov, where people can find answers to tax questions and resolve tax issues online.

IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig said his department is committed to ensuring taxpayers experience another smooth filing season.

The IRS expects to process more than 150 million individual tax returns, with most of the returns filed before the April due date.
