Investigation into Shooting on Whitman Street Active and Ongoing

The Toccoa Police Department and Georgia Bureau of Investigation continue this morning to investigate a shooting that occurred early Easter Morning on West Whitman Street.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, Toccoa Police Officers responded shortly past midnight on Sunday, March 31 to reports of shots fired at an address on West Whitman Street across from Emory Johnson Park. Mize said  two individuals were transported by Stephens County EMS, one with a gunshot wound to the chest and one with a gunshot wound to the stomach. 

Following standard protocol, Mize contacted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to assist with the investigation, and GBI investigators arrived on scene in the early morning hours Sunday, taking lead in the case. 

WNEG News spoke with Nelly Miles, GBI Director of Public Affairs, at approximately 10:30 p.m. last night, March 31, and she said there were no updates on the case at this point, other than to confirm that two individuals were shot, taken to the hospital for medical treatment, and released.  She said the case is “active and ongoing” and there are no further updates at this time.
