Investigation Into Gumlog Hit and Run Death Continues

The investigation into what led up to the hit and run death of a Gumlog man continues in Franklin County.

On Thursday, Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas released a statement stating that charges have been filed against the driver.

The incident happened last Sunday morning on Ridgeview Dr. off Gumlog Road.

Ridgeview Drive is in an older subdivision that has separate roads into and out of the neighborhood with a grassy median in between.

According to initial reports, a woman drove her vehicle over the grassy median and struck a man who was walking. He died at the scene. The victim’s name has not been released.

“The victim is a white male, he was struck by a vehicle. The driver did leave the scene,” Thomas said in his statement. “We have a person of interest in the Franklin County Detenton Center charged with aggravated assault at this time.”

He said his investigators continue to work the case with the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the GBI Crime Lab.

The name of the suspect has not been released.
