Victim Identified in Fatal Shooting

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Toccoa Police Jimmy Mize have identified the victim in Wednesday’s fatal shooting as Joel Keshon Green, 18, of Toccoa.

According to Mize, the shooting  occurred around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on South Alexander St. Behind the Toccoa Pawn shop.

Mize says the GBI was on the scene for hours Wednesday afternoon gathering evidence and interviewing residents, but so far they have few details about what led up to the shooting. The Chief said Thursday they have no motive for the shooting.

According to Mize, witnesses saw a vehicle leave the scene shortly after the shooting and a lookout was placed for that car.

“That vehicle was located and the driver interviewed,” Mize said late Thursday.

The Green was found lying on the side of Alexander St. Mize said he had suffered one gunshot wound to the head.

“They were working him when we got here. They were doing chest compressions and everything. Officers kept that up until EMS got here and transported him out of there,” Mize said.

Mize said Green was pronounced dead at Stephens County Hospital.
