Interviews To Start Soon In Stephens Co. Hospital Administrator Search

The search for the next Stephens County Hospital Administrator is getting ready to move into the next phase.

Members of the Stephens County Hospital Authority’s Personnel Committee met this week to go over the resumes of the people that applied for the position.

Stephens County Hospital Administrator Ed Gambrell said that the Hospital Authority received about 17 resumes prior to the application deadline at the end of February.

Gambrell said that the pool of candidates that applied for the job was outstanding in his opinion.

“There are so many well-qualified, talented people out there and this was mainly word of mouth, plus we had put on our website the fact that we were accepting resumes for the administrator position,” said Gambrell. “I am just very impressed with the pool of candidates out there.”

Out of those 17 or so resumes, Gambrell said the Hospital Authority’s Personnel Committee plans to interview six people.

He said the Hospital Authority will schedule those interviews in the next three to four weeks.

“We will interview each of those,” said Gambrell. “We really do not have a specific deadline or timeline. Hopefully, one of those six people that we interview will kind of rise to the top and will be the one that the Authority extends a job offer to.”

Gambrell did say that if they do not find someone to make an offer to, they could turn to a recruiting firm.

“Hopefully, we do not need to do that because hopefully one of the candidates interviewed will be offered the job,” said Gambrell.

According to Gambrell, the Personnel Committee will conduct those interviews, but all Authority members will be invited to attend.

Whoever is selected by the Authority will replace Gambrell, who has announced that he is retiring at the end of this year after serving as Hospital Administrator for what will be more than 28 years.

Gambrell said that gives plenty of time for the hospital to select his successor.

“I did give a long notice,” said Gambrell. “Certainly, it would be beneficial to have someone on board for several months before I leave.”

However, he did say there is no rush to get someone in place.
