Information released on last week’s deputy involved wreck

New details have been released regarding a recent accident that occurred early last week.

Last Tuesday, at the intersection of Big A Road and Currahee Street near the bridge three vehicles were involved in an accident, one of which was a Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Deputy’s patrol car.

In a report released by the Georgia State Patrol, Post 7, the accident occurred at 1:37 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

The first vehicle, a green 2001 Toyota Tacoma regular cab, driven by Tonya Talley, 56, of Toccoa, was towed due to disabling damage.

Talley sustained non-fatal injuries.

Vehicle No. 2, a 2007 Crown Victoria Deputy’s vehicle, driven by Douglas Marcus, 28, of Toccoa, was also towed.

Marcus sustained non-fatal injuries.

Vehicle No. 3, a red 2001 Ford Expedition, driven by Steven Shirley, 43, of Toccoa, was not towed.

Shirley sustained no injuries.

According to Corporal Vanscoten’s report, Talley’s vehicle was traveling south on GA 123 in the through lane.

Marcus’ vehicle was traveling west on GA 17 Alternate in the left lane; while Shirley’s vehicle was also traveling east on GA 17 Alternative in the right hand lane.

It was reported that Talley stopped at the red light and then proceeded to go through the intersection while the light was still red, traveling into the path of Marcus’ vehicle.

Impact occurred in the left hand westbound lane of GA 17 Alternative, Shirley stated that that the light was green and traffic was moving through the intersection when the spare tire from Talley’s vehicle came across the road and struck his vehicle.

Talley received one violation.
