Indians Win at Gainesville

The Stephens County Indians baseball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 10-8 victory at Gainesville on Monday night.

The Indians jumped on the red Elephants early with 7 runs in the first 2 innings. In the 1st, Ridge Adams lead off the game with a hit by pitch, and moved to 2nd on Cole Snyder’s single. After an Eli Wenger sacrifice bunt, Adams and Snyder scored on a passed ball and wild pitch. Isaiah Martin walked, stole 2nd and scored on a Cruz Mullinix RBI single. Mullinix later scored on Jordan Page’s double.

In the 2nd inning, Seth Jameson, and Snyder singled and came in to score on Wenger’s 3-run home run to make the score 7-0 going to the bottom of the 2nd.

The Red Elephants then scored a run in each of the 2nd and 3rd innings, added 2 more in the 4th, and 4 more in the 5th to take an 8-7 lead.

The Indians came back with 3 runs in the 6th inning. With one out, Martin reached on an error, Carson Worley walked, and Page singled home Martin to tie the score at 8. An Ayden Garmon single loaded the bases, and a Jameson fielder’s choice chopper to third plated the go ahead run. The Indians added another run on and Adams single.

Worley came on in relief to go to 2-0 on the season. Worley pitched 2 and 2/3 innings of scoreless no-hit ball. Mullinix started the game going 3 innings, and Page pitched an inning and a 1/3.

Snyder had 4 hits for the Indians to lead the 13 hit attack.

Ethan Payne pitched 5 innings for Gainesville, but took the loss for the Red Elephants now 1-3.

Stephens County will be back on the road Tuesday night when they travel to Hartwell to face the Hart County Bulldogs. Airtime is scheduled for 5:45 P.M. with first pitch at 5:55 P.M. on WNEG.
