Indians Teams Split with Athens Christian in Holiday Tournament

Corey Richie’s 14 points led the Stephens County Indians to a 57-47 win over the Athens Christian Eagles Wednesday night in the second round of the Border Wars Holiday Christmas Tournament at the Currahee Arena.

The Indians took the lead of 15-6 in the first quarter and never looked back.

Jasec Smith contributed 14 points and Jet Black, who is becoming a three-point artist, had three more three-point shots and 9 points.

With the win, the Indians improve to 4-5 on the season.

Athens Christian was led in scoring by Drew Beedle who tallied 21 points.

The Eagles, who are coached by former Georgia Bulldog and NBA great Carlos Strong, dropped to 6-7.

Stephens County Lady Indians Coach Laura Baker put up three different defenses against Lady Eagles star Natalie Goff, but she scored 32 points anyway, leading Athens Christian to a lopsided 71-37 win over Stephens County.

The Lady Indians were led by Carson Stowe who led her team with 18 points, including
five three pointers.

The Lady Indians are now 2-9 on the season.

The Indians teams are off until the first Friday of the new year when they host the Rabun County Wildcats on Friday, January 6th.

Game time is set for 7 P.M. and broadcast time on WNEG will be 6:45 P.M.
