Indians Take Tough Region Loss at Hart

The Stephens County Indians baseball team fell to Hart County by a final of 2-1 Tuesday night in Hartwell.

All of the runs in the game were scored in the 1st inning. Stephens County got an early lead in the top of the 1st when Cruz Mullinix walked with two outs and Garrett Burgess doubled home Sam Austin running for Mullinix.

Hart County came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning with both being unearned. Tanner Ayers had a leadoff walk and scored when Peyton Powell reached on an error. Riley Posey’s single scored Reece Maxwell running for Powell.

Both pitchers were outstanding. Powell went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing only one run on 3 hits while striking out 5. Tanner Ayers got the save getting the last two outs for the Bulldogs.

Mullinix was just as impressive in the loss going 6 innings and allowing just 5 hits while striking out 2.

Burgess led the Indians offensive attack with 2 of the 3 hits.

Hart County improves to 5-5 in Region-8 play and 9-12 overall. Stephens County is now 3-7 in the Region and 11-12 overall.

The two teams will play a doubleheader on Friday at Stephens County. The Indians will have a special recognition of the 1972 team between games.

Airtime for Friday’s doubleheader on WNEG will be 4:45 P.M. with first pitch scheduled for 5 P.M.
