Indians Sweep Weekend Basketball

THE STEPHENS COUNTY INDIANS AND LADY INDIANS MADE IT A COMPLETE WEEK-END SWEEP WITH WINS OVER HABERSHAM CENTRAL ON FRIDAY AND UNION COUNTY SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

THE BOYS PLAYED FIRST SATURDAY AND LED THE UNION COUNTY PANTHERS FROM START TO FINISH,ENDING WITH A 78-57 WIN.COREY RITCHIE LED THE INDIANS WITH 24 POINTS,FOLLOWED BY KENNY COLWELL’S 14 POINTS.D.J.HAMPTON HAD ONE OF HIS BEST GAMES WITH 13 POINTS AND TYRECE MACKIE CHIPPED IN WITH 12. LANDON KNIGHT WAS THE LEADING SCORER FOR UNION COUNTY WITH 16 POINTS.

WITH THE WIN,THE INDIANS MOVE TO 3-2 ON THE SEASON.

COACH LAURA BAKER’S LADY INDIANS ALSO LED WIRE TO WIRE AND SCORED A 60-40 WIN OVER THE LADY PANTHERS OF UNION COUNTY. NANA EADES LED TH LADIES WITH 22 POINTS,KIKI HOWARD AND BREANNA TAYLOR EACH HAD 11 POINTS. THE LADY INDIANS ARE NOW 4-1 ON THE SEASON.

 

Stephens County comes away with the sweep in non-region basketball play at Habersham Central.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Indians jumped out to an 18-6 after one quarter and never let the Lady Raiders in front on the way to a 42-32 win.

Ranajah Verdell had 18 points to lead the Lady Indians and Bre Taylor added 11 points. Taylor Wade led the Lady Raiders with 12 points.

With the win, the Lady Indians moved to 3-1 on the year and handed the Habersham girls their first loss at 5-1.

In the boys’ game, Stephens County trailed by seven points at the half, but outscored Habersham’s boys by 15 in the second half to win going away, 61-53.

Kenny Colwell led three Indians in double figures with 19 points. Tyrece Mackie added 12 and Corey Richie scored 10 for Stephens County. Malachi Dooley led the Raiders with 21 points.

The Indian boys move to 2-2 with the win, while the Raiders fell to 4-2.

Stephens County returns to action on Saturday at home versus Union County. Airtime is 3:45 p.m. with tipoff at 4 p.m.
