Indians Sweep Spartans

The Stephens County Indians boys’ and girls’ basketball teams picked up wins on the road Tuesday night at West Hall High School in Oakwood.

The Stephens County Lady Indians used a pressure defense to jump out to a 24-1 lead at the end of the first quarter and led by 40 points at halftime to roll to a 60-29 victory.

The Lady Indians were led in scoring by Carson Stowe with 15 points and Tytiunna Tukes with 10.

Yatsur Matos had 17 points to lead the Lady Spartans now 0-3 on the season.

The Lady Indians improve to 1-1 on the season.

In the boys’ game, Stephens County outscored West Hall 16-6 in the 3rd quarter to break open a tight game and then held on for a 52-48 win in the season opener.

Jet Black made five 3-pointers, four in the 1st quarter, for a game high 17 points. Jasec Smith added 11 points for the Indians with all coming in the 2nd half.

Xavier Felix had 12 points in the first half and 14 for the game to lead the Spartans now 1-3 on the season.

The Stephens County JV boys also won defeating West Hall 57-37.

Stephens County’s home opener will be this Friday night when they host Tallulah Falls. Airtime for the varsity girls’ game is set for 6:45 P.M. with tipoff at 7 P.M. on WNEG.
