Indians Sweep Raiders

It was the first sweep of the year for Stephens County’s basketball teams Tuesday night at Currahee Arena.

The Stephens County Lady Indians used a balanced scoring attack and suffocating defense to pick up their 2nd win of the season downing Habesham Central 49-36.

Leading by one at the half, Stephens County outscored the Lady Raiders 27-15 in the 2nd half.

Renajah Verdell scored 13 points, and Savannah Broska added 11 for the Lady Indians.

Habersham Central was led by Nikerria Brown with 10.

The Lady Indians improve to 2-8 on the season. Habersham Central falls to 3-7.

In the boys contest, Stephens County scored the first 20 points of the game and coasted to a 61-41 win over the Raiders.

Ty Nails led four Indians in double figures with 16 points, Takias Nails scored 13, Chris Sinclair 12, and Kenny Colwell 10.

Habersham Central’s Dontarius Bailey and Sean Cunningham had 7 points each to lead the Raiders.

Stephens County has won seven straight games and is now 9-2 on the season. Habersham Central falls to 2-7.

The Indians and Lady Indians return to the hardwood on Friday night when they travel to face rival Hart County. Airtime Friday is set for 5:45 P.M. with the girls tip at 6 and the boys game to follow on WNEG.
