Indians Suffer Winless Weekend

The Habersham Central Raiders swept a doubleheader from the Stephens County Indians basketball teams Saturday afternoon at the Currahee Arena.

In the girls’ game, Lady Raiders leading scorer Kyia Barrett topped all scorers with 24 points to lead her team to a 51-42 win.

Stephens County had a good effort from Fayeth Ivester who led the Lady Indians with 15 points including three 3-pointers. Samaji Scott added 9 points for the Lady Indians.

The Habersham Central girls improved to 2-5 with both wins coming over the Lady Indians.

Cold shooting by the Indian boys’ team led to a 61 -45 win for the Raiders.

Habersham Central, now 5-2 on the season, was led by Bannon Gaines with 21 points.

The Stephens County Indians were led by Jacec Smith who had 13 points while Nori Winters contributed 12 points.

On Friday night, the Stephens County Indians had their toughest offensive game of the season falling on the road at Tallulah Falls 35-33. The Indians managed only 10 points at the half but despite the scoring issues came back to grab a brief lead in the 2nd half and had a shot at the buzzer for the win that just missed.

Jet Black led the Indians with 9 points and Aidan Butts added 8.
Tallulah Falls was led by Jay Taylor from the U.K. with 12 points and Bryson Perdue from Tiger with 10. The win stopped a six game losing streak for Tallulah Falls now 3-6.
In the girls game, Molly Mitchell of Toccoa scored 20 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead Tallulah Falls to a 58-42 victory over Stephens County. The Lady Indians were led by Fayeth Ivester with 17 points including four 3-pointers. Jaziya Harbin added 9 points for the Lady Indians. Tallulah Falls improves to 3-3.
The Indians Boys team is now 3-3 and the Lady Indians are 1-6.
Both teams return to action on Tuesday when they host Rabun County at Currahee Arena. Airtime is scheduled for 5:45 P.M. with tipoff of the girls game at 6 P.M. on WNEG.
