Indians Suffer First Loss at Hebron

It was just one of those nights. The Stephens County Indians quest for an undefeated regular season came to an abrupt end Friday night falling to Hebron Christian Academy 37-6 in the regular season finale in Dacula.

The Indians got on the board first with a 31-yard field goal by Luke Waters late in the first quarter, but it was all Lions after that.

Early in the 2nd quarter Hebron Christian took the lead on a 59-yard run by Justin Hornick and added a Nils Cole 24-yard field goal to take a 10-3 lead into halftime.

Hebron Christian added four touchdowns in the 2nd half with two in each quarter. Jarvis Mathering had a 50-yard touchdown run, Thomas Stallworth hit Noah Hill with a 28-yard touchdown pass, Devon Caldwell had a 27-yard touchdown run, and Adrian Hollingshead added an eight-yard TD run.

The Indians added a 30-yard field goal by Waters to end the scoring.

The Lions held the Indians offense to right at 100 yards on the night.

With the loss, the Indians fall to 4-1 in region-8 AAA and 9-1 overall. Hebron Christian improves to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the region.

Stephens County will host Carver of Atlanta next week in the first round of the AAA state playoffs. Oconee County receives the #2 seed from region-8 and will host Douglass, Monroe Area will travel to Sandy Creek and Hebron Christian will play at Cedar Grove.

Also in the area, Habersham Central advanced to the 6A state playoffs and will travel to undefeated Douglas County, and in the Class A-Division 1 playoffs Rabun County will travel to Social Circle, Commerce will host Jasper County and Elbert County will host Oglethorpe County.
