Indians Split Three Team Doubleheader

The Stephens County Indians baseball team split a doubleheader on Saturday in Habersham County.

In game one, the Indians banged out 13 hits and got great pitching from Gabe White to roll to an 11-0 win over Rabun County in 5 innings.

White pitched a complete game shutout allowing just 3 hits, striking out seven while walking just one.

The Indians got contributions throughout the lineup at the plate. Isaiah Martin led the charge with 4 RBI’s including a three-run homer, Ben Hobbs had 2 RBI’s, and a RBI each from Jordan Page, Eli Wenger, Carson Brock, and Aaron Chappalear.

Davis Swenson, Martin, Page, and Wenger each had 2 hits. Dawson Sorrells, Martin, and Swenson scored multiple runs.

Rabun County lost the opening game of the day to Habersham Central 13-1 and is now 0-2.

In game 2, Habersham Central scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th to grab the lead and held on for a 3-2 win over the Indians.

After a scoreless first three innings, Stephens County broke through with a run in the top of the 4th when Hobbs singled with 2 outs, Page singled Hobbs to 3rd, and Hobbs scored on a wild pitch to make the score 1-0.

Habersham Central got things going in the bottom of the 4th when Hogan Pitts and Christian King combined to knock in three runs and the Raiders led 3-1 after 4. In the top of the 6th inning, doubles by Cayden Maxwell and Davis Swenson plated the Indians 2nd run, but that completed the scoring.

Peyton Irvin picked up a complete game win allowing 2 runs on 7 hits, striking out 9 and walking just one. Dawson Sorrells took the tough loss allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, striking out 5 and walking one.

Habersham Central improves to 2-0. Stephens County is 1-1-1. The Indians return to action on Tuesday in their home opener against Banks County. Airtime is scheduled for 5:20 P.M. with 1st pitch at 5:30 P.M. on WNEG.
