Indians Season Ends at Sandy Creek

The Sandy Creek Patriots boys’ basketball team played every bit of the role as the #1 rated AAA team in the state and defending state champions with a resounding 97-42 win over Stephens County in the opening round of the AAA state tournament Wednesday night in Tyrone, Georgia.

The Patriots opened the game with torrid shooting that led to a 15-0 start and knocked down nine first half 3-pointers on their way to a 58-28 halftime lead.

Amari Brown led the Patriots, now 23-3 on the season, with 21 points, Micah Smith added 16 points, Avohn Florence 15, and Jacobi Robinson 14 for the home team.

Stephens County was led by Nuri Winters with 13 points and Javin Gordon with 12.

Sandy Creek will now advance to host Lumpkin County this weekend.

Stephens County’s season ends with an overall record of 10-17.

It was the final high school game for four Indians seniors: Nuri Winters, Jasec Smith, Santana Smith, and Aidan Butts.

Two Region-8 teams advanced to the next round with both Hart County and Hebron Christian getting home wins. Monroe Area fell at Douglass.

The Hebron Christian girls team also advanced in the state playoffs and joined the other region-8 teams: Oconee County, Hart County, and Franklin County in the round of 16.
