Indians Season Ends at Blessed Trinity

The 2018 basebal1 season came to an end for the Stephens County Indians on Friday night in Roswell as the Indians were swept in a doubleheader by top-ranked Blessed Trinity.

The Indians made it interesting in game one of the series. Dawson Sorrells led off the game with a single that was followed by a Chaz Bridges double. Bryson Fowler’s ground ball out scored Sorrells to give the Indians 1-0 lead. Blessed Trinity came back with a run in the bottom of the inning and the score remained tied until the top of the 5th when Griff Pruit singled, Sorrells reached on an error, and Bridges had a bunt single to load the bases. Fowler had a sacrifice fly to score Pruitt, but that was the only run the Indians would score.

The Indians took a 2-1 lead to the bottom of the 6th, but the nationally ranked Titans got it going with a walk and three straight hits to score 4 runs in the inning and hold on for a 5-2 victory.

Davis Swenson was outstanding for the Indians on the mound limiting the Titans to just one run on two hits and striking out 5 before the Titans broke through in the 6th. Clark Dearman went to 10-0 on the season for Blessed Trinity going six innings.

Steele Chambers led the Titans at the plate with two hits and two RBI’s. Bridges had 3 hits, Sorrells and Pruitt had two hits, and Fowler had both RBI’s for the Indians.

In Game 2, it was all Blessed Trinity as the Titans took advantage of eight Indians walks, three Indians errors, and banged out eleven hits on their way to an 11-0 win in six innings.

Titans pitcher Sebastian Szot carried a no hitter until the 6th inning when Bridges singled. The Indians did not advance a runner past 2nd base in the game. Szot struck out 5 and walked two to get the one-hit shutout.

Stephens County season ends at 21-11 on the year. Blessed Trinity advances to face Troup County.

Elsewhere in series involving Region-8 teams North Oconee advanced with a sweep of West Hall, Madison County was eliminated with a sweep at Marist, and Jefferson will meet Chestatee in a deciding game on Saturday.

Friday marked the final high school game for eight Indians seniors: Austin Page, Chaz Bridges, Cole Beitzel, Griff Pruitt, Dawson Dean, Kole Rogers, Zach Boyd, and Bryson Fowler.
